Shingle Bay
Pender Island, BC

Renovation/ Addition to Single-Family House
3,700 sq.ft.

The Shingle Bay House is a family retreat, designed for a multi-generational west coast family with a love of sailing. The project consists of renovations to an existing structure to modernize the interiors, improve flow and circulation, and to open up opportunities for views across Shingle Bay. The proposed addition includes an improved front entry condition with a breezeway trellis and creates a much-needed Family Room for an expanding family, complete with built-in desk spaces to facilitate remote working.

This project takes advantage of the ‘excellent bones’ of the original house, which was originally built in the 1970s. The design focusses on expanding the opportunities for views, lighting, and a connection to the outdoors – both visual and physical. The overall intention of this intervention is to create a quiet, peaceful retreat, that celebrates the spectacular surrounding environment.
