Ozard

Originally designed in the early 1970s by notable architect Henry Yorke Mann, Ozard House is a marvel of West Coast Modern architecture. The home is located on a small island accessible only by water taxi. The current owner is a classical musician with a deep love for the house, and much care and attention has been paid by all parties to complete the renovation of this home in a way that is sensitive and mindful of the original architecture.

Built almost entirely out of solid cedar, this muscular wood house steps around its island topography, melded to the landscape. Sensitive modernization creates a spectacular piano studio with views of the harbour and sea, joins the owner's love of fine woodworking with the muscular expression of the existing architecture, celebrates craftsmanship and art, and creates warm spaces that are both contemplative and connective. The landscape design, conceptualized by renowned landscape architect Don Vaughan, anchors the house to its place, and celebrates the owner's love of Japanese gardening.

In an advisory design role, euoi studio worked with the owner and the project team to assist with renovations in a collaborative, on-site, and sensitive way.
