Single-Family Renovation
1,560 sq.ft.
Set deep in a lush, forested West Coast neighbourhood, this 1961 post-and-beam home embraces its natural surroundings with expansive windows and wide overhanging eaves. The kitchen was reimagined as the heart of family life, opening sightlines to the dining room and rear garden while introducing warm wood tones, timeless materials, and functional storage for everyday living. Original architectural features, such as the brick partition wall and mid-century hardwood floors, were carefully preserved and paired with cedar float shelving, Douglas fir posts, and walnut cabinets to create a harmonious contrast. A linear kitchen island anchors the space and is paired with an expandable dining table to accommodate both everyday family meals and long-table gatherings. A coffee station and bar provide additional functionality for entertaining.
The renovation honors the home’s West Coast Modern heritage while creating a vibrant, open, inclusive, and family-friendly space that is deeply connected to the serene forest surroundings.
