Multi-Family Residential Duplex
3,050 sq.ft.
The Dumfries Street Duplex is a simple and modern urban redevelopment of single-family lot in East Vancouver. Designed to appeal to young families that have outgrown condo living and need room for expansion, the three-bedroom plus den home is designed to be flexible and useful over time. The project plays off of simple massing, with a highly textural palette of vertical wood detailing, and random board and batten siding that pay tribute to the urban location’s west coast forest roots.
The result is a highly-efficient living space, centered around a central staircase. Vaulted ceilings and clerestory windows are used to flood the space with natural light. Landscape design by the celebrated Landscape Architect Don Vaughan includes a rain garden, indigenous planting, and adaptable garden space that can be tailored to families’ needs.
